What do you do when you have $25k invested in a transferable M16 receiver and it cracks?
Send it to Gary’s Bunker and chances are very likely we can repair it and make it stronger than new.
This customer sent us a badly cracked receiver. The previous vendor attempted to repair/weld the receiver but the repair failed. Aluminum has to be thoroughly cleaned and preheated prior to & after welding to remove stresses. On this particular repair we elected to weld in a 1/16″ thick aluminum plate to the front of the mag well to reinforce the area. As you can see, the repair was successful and the customer was totally pleased with the results. Here is a sequence of repair photos:
